West Africa at the precipice: Visualizing climate stress and insecurity

In the wave of articles  on the relationship between climate and violence in part of the African continent, the Igarape Institute prepared the bulletin “Assessing the relationship between climate change and security in West Africa”. The document features EarthTime visualizations that help to observe the phenomenon. In it, Peter Schmidt and Robert Muggah signal that the past decade was the warmest period in human history, with devastating effects on food security, water availability, migration and armed conflict. As the bulletin indicates, climate change is particularly violent for developing countries. Africa is home to over 25 of the 50 countries most vulnerable to global warming.
