Fresh perspectives on the Internet of Things (IoT)

The Igarapé Institute released two new publications on a complex and under-analyzed theme – the Internet of Things (IoT). Very generally, IoT refers to the digital interconnection of infrastructure, services and people. The first Strategic Note – “Segurança e Privacidade para a Internet das Coisas” – focuses in on the implications of cloud community, artificial intelligence (AI), and devices and sensors for data protection and privacy. The second Strategic Note – “A Internet das Coisas no Brasil: Estado da arte e reflexões críticas ao fenômeno” – was written by Eduardo Magrani and explores the trade-offs of these new technologies. It highlights the efficiency gains, on the one hand, and the risks to data protection on the other.
