Maria Eduarda Pessoa de Assis

Maria Eduarda is a lawyer and legal advisor at the Igarapé Institute, working in the organization’s advocacy, mainly in topics such as public security and protection of civic space in Brazil.


She graduated at the Faculty Law of the University of the State of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ), specialized in Criminal Law at the Center for Studies and Research in the Teaching of Law of the University of the State of Rio de Janeiro (CEPED/UERJ) and is currently a master’s student in Public Policies in Human Rights at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (NEPP-DH/UFRJ).


Maria Eduarda started her career as a criminal lawyer, when she was able to act in criminal and sanctioning disputes both in the Judicial and Administrative spheres on several Courts in the country.
