Maria Eduarda Pessoa de Assis

Maria Eduarda is a lawyer graduated in the Faculty of Law of the University of the State of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ), she is completing a Lato Sensu Postgraduate Course in Specialization in Criminal Law at the Center for Studies and Research in the Teaching of Law at the State University of Rio de Janeiro (CEPED / UERJ) and will attend a master’s degree in Public Policy on Human Rights at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (NEPP-DH/UFRJ).

She began her career as a criminal lawyer, where she was able to act in criminal and sanctioning disputes, in the judicial and administrative spheres, before several courts in the country. Currently, she is also the legal coordinator and co-founder of Coletivo Inaiá, created in 2020, with the aim of bringing to the daily basis the debate on forms of oppression in the school environment, especially sexual harassment.

At the Igarape Institute, she acts as a legal advisor and participates in projects in the areas of public security, criminal justice, climate security, arms control and civic space.
