Protecting nature means protecting
people, territories, and the future

Environmental degradation is not just an ecological issue, it is a driver of social, economic, and climate instability. When forests disappear, communities lose their livelihoods, illicit economies spread, and the climate crisis worsens.

Since 2019, the Igarapé Institute has been working to combat environmental crime, promote nature-based solutions (NbS), and strengthen models of governance and financing that can preserve the planet’s most vital ecosystems. We operate at various levels, from local to global, to turn vulnerable territories into hubs of resilience and prosperity.

Our lines of work

Zero deforestation and tackling environmental crime

We aim for zero deforestation in the Amazon Basin, addressing illegal economies and strengthening the rule of law to protect people, forests, and biodiversity.

Promoting the bioeconomy and nature finance

We contribute to reducing territorial risks, expanding the bioeconomy, and developing financial tools and guidelines that value standing forests.

Green Bridge Facility

The Green Bridge Facility (GBF) unlocks responsible investment to grow high-integrity green enterprise that benefits communities and safeguard tropical forests and biomes. Access GBF website
