Homicides in Messi’s hometown fall to the lowest level in a decade
Homicides in the metropolitan area with Argentina’s highest crime rate have decreased this year as local police presence has increased and President Javier Milei implements a crackdown on crime to fulfill one of his main campaign promises.
Homicides in the city of Rosario, an agricultural export hub that has been overwhelmed by drug trafficking in recent years, have fallen to around 70 so far this year, compared to more than 200 in the same period last year, according to Mayor Pablo Javkin. This puts the city on track to reach its lowest rate in at least a decade, based on available provincial data. Milei himself celebrated in September that there were no homicides in Rosario for four weeks, something that hadn’t happened in at least a decade.
