Lesson Plans and Guidelines for Families

capa

Drugs are an issue that many prefer to avoid.

How can one deal with such a complex subject? And what can we do to educate and protect teenagers and young adults?

The first step is to break the silence. Here you will find lesson plans and discussion guidelines for putting the issue on the table. It’s important to speak about it and to work towards prevention through honesty, both in the classroom and in the security of your own home.

On the basis of scientific evidence which indicates social-emotional development is an important factor in protecting against high-risk behavior, we are preparing pedagogical  tools and activities that are based on a positive model of social skills. Teenagers and young adults can, and should learn to enjoy the benefits of self-regulation, empathy, self-discovery, and social consciousness. Our lesson plans will  focus on the proposal of reflecting and questioning collective and individual behaviors, using the stories from the book, Drogas: as histórias que não te contaram, by Ilona Szabó, Executive Director of Igarapé and Journalist Isabel Clemente.

The guideline for families offers ideas and questions with the aim of provoking reflection and generating discussion. This debate doesn’t need winners or right and wrong answers. What you want is to stimulate the indispensable art of dialog, in which speaking and listening trade off in order to deepen emotional ties.
