This event will explore synergies between SOTF and G20 to advance UN and IFIs reform, building trust through multi stakeholder partnerships in an era of complexity and uncertainty.
In this age of polycrisis, global governance reform can no longer be treated as optional or as a long-term goal. It is both urgent and essential. The Pact for the Future provides a historic opportunity to reshape our international system to better address global challenges such as inequalities and climate change. Seizing this opportunity will require political momentum and leadership from global-majority countries, which remain underrepresented. Under Brazil’s presidency this year and South Africa’s next, the Group of 20 (G20) is uniquely positioned to champion a more inclusive and effective multilateralism. The inaugural G20 ministerial at the United Nations (UN) represents a significant step forward, with a Call to Action on global governance reform that will be open to all UN Member States for signature. However, progress will depend on creating and leveraging further such opportunities. This event will identify moments and strategies to harness synergies across multilateral spaces – including the UN, international financial institutions (IFIs), and regional organizations – taking Chapter Five of the Pact for the Future as its starting point. It will also serve as a platform for launching new initiatives and investments towards a global governance system that is resilient, inclusive, and equipped to meet the needs of future generations.
